[Discuss-gnuradio] Programmatically determining which tab (tab widget) is selected

Is there a way to connect a tab widget to a block such that the block
knows which tab is selected? 

Simply typing the widget's block id into the target block doesn't work.
I get:

 "Value "intc" cannot be evaluated:
 name intc is not defined

The tab widget's id is "intc".
