FWIW I have a tiff with alpha created on OPENSTEP 4.2 with Grab.app in
which you can check how alpha is stored. (This doesn't prove anything
though.) It's at: http://goliat.eik.bme.hu/~balaton/gnustep/testalpha.tiff
