It's prior art all right, but it doesn't support your argument. :)
Quoting the latest version of XFree86's Xlib.h:

#if defined(__cplusplus) || defined(c_plusplus)
        int c_class;            /* C++ class of screen (monochrome,
etc.) */
        int class;              /* class of screen (monochrome, etc.) */


There are tons of other cases of this in XFree86's headers.
