Depends on what you mean by "apple improvements".

This is only of interest for Darwin platforms I believe.

    This branch was originally used to merge Objective-C bug fixes and 
enhancements from Apple Computer into the FSF tree; this has now been 
completed. Presently, the purpose of the branch is to implement the 
Objective-C++ language in the FSF GCC source tree. The message thread

But I'd only suggest that if you're into gcc hacking.  Note that if 
you're looking for the Java-like extensions then you have to use the 
apple runtime.  (And probably the apple gcc.)
