OK, I just applied the patch that make AA fonts the default for the xlib backend. All complains about ugly looking fonts should not be send to this list, but to Alex personally. :-)
Just as a hint: If your fonts look bad or GNUstep complains that it cannot find Helvetica, this is no problem of the xlib backend: Normally there is no AA Helvetica font installed. You just will need to use different default fonts. I remember sending a mail to this list months ago about how to do this and which fonts could be used. But my recomendation is simply:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain GSFontAntiAlias NO Than things will work again as normal. Fred
