The other backends are not effected by the --disable-glitz option. Just
use it for the cairo backend. You will get other errors later on, if you
don't set this option.

If this makes it easier for you, we could remove the glitz support from
the configuration for now. But what is so bad about using the option?

Now here we got two independent errors. One is about the missing
function cairo_scaled_font_text_extents, of which I have already
explained  that it was only added in January. If you cannot upgrade to a
current cairo version, the GNUstep code wont compile.
The other problem is about the freetype configuration on your machine,
which seems to be broken. A few lines above the cited one cairo-ft.h
includes ft2build.h, which is some clever redirect to the actual
freetype2 header file ftheader.h. In there you will find a line saying:

#define FT_FREETYPE_H  <freetype/freetype.h>

Now one step in this row must be broken on your machine. Perhaps there
is no development environment for freetype installed? Or more likely
there are two of them and they are mixed? Or it somehow did get broken?
