I think I've seen some slide mentioning Cocoa and Core Animation.
And, there is no confirmation at all that the iPhone will be Open and

From what I've read it won't be open.
That all is/will be available in mySTEP if we enforce this work (sort
of "Open-i-phone") ...
What is most interesting for me in the context is
a) getting GNUstep running on the N800 (and provide a usable X-
platform build
environment)
b) build fancy effects and a cool UI theme
Building something better than maemo/hildon for the N800 would be
quite awesome, too bad I don't have the time/resources :-)
I find the 770/N800 surprisingly similiar to the interesting
aspects of the iPhone. Except it lacks the flashy OS.
