I'm keeping that for midnight today ... sprintf is not a nice
way to do things around here ...
And I do have Rich333's code for the full thing here .. I just
need to extract the code from the formatting mess for a basic
implementation. And I find it *very* similar to the glibc model,
(with a string/builder instead of MPN).
