btw. duply 1.11+ has a conf parameter for that purpose

# override the used python interpreter, defaults to "python"
#   e.g. "python2" or "/usr/bin/python2.7"
#PYTHON="python"

so no need to patch duplicity.

AND

there is a mini howto install multiple duplicity versions on
  under TIPS -> INSTALL MULTIPLE VERSIONS
  http://duply.net/wiki/index.php/Duply-documentation
this way _all_ duplicity files end up under the given PREFIX.
