I'm going to guess it is to do with the output of M-x list-colors-display? Those are just the standard named X colours. (See e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X11_color_names) So we won't be adding any entries to that list. But you can use whatever colour you want for faces, whether or not the colour has a name. Just use the hex code directly.That makes sense, thanks.
