I'm not sure how to debug this, but I can provide a little hint about
what speedbar is doing.
The text that is there without image, ie: "[+]", is still there, but
marked invisible, and left tangible. The image is then placed on top
of it. This is because speedbar has lots of code searching for the
"[+]" which I didn't feel like fixing just for images.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but you never know.
