Interesting. In my own completion package (basically partial-completion-mode
enhanced with substring matching) I don't think I rely on / at all,
and use the standard file-name-parsing functions instead.
Do you remember the reason why you chose to parse the filenames by hand ?
[ I can't remember being bothered by those parsing functions, so it never
occurred to me to parse filenames manually. ]
