If that is true, I'd suggest to run that directory thru the doschk
program.  I suspect some of the added files have names that will
either clash on 8+3 filesystems or are not allowed there (a file name
like emacs/gc/MacProjects.sit.hqx is one such case).  Also, I believe
file names like README.win32 is something we try to avoid.
