I have another problem with mh-e files: "make recompile" in the lisp
subdirectory fails to compile these 6 files:

   mh-comp.el, mh-e.el, mh-utils.el, mh-funcs.el, mh-junk.el, mh-seq.el

Every one of these 6 files fails to compile with messages like the
ones reproduced below:

    Checking d:/gnu/new/emacs/lisp/mh-e...
    Compiling d:/gnu/new/emacs/lisp/mh-e/mh-comp.el...
    Source file `d:/gnu/new/emacs/lisp/mh-e/mh-e.el' newer than byte-compiled 
file
    Source file `d:/gnu/new/emacs/lisp/mh-e/mh-utils.el' newer than 
byte-compiled file
    Source file `d:/gnu/new/emacs/lisp/mh-e/mh-utils.el' newer than 
byte-compiled file
