I must admit I have made a mistake by not mentioning customize-browse. I thought it was covered under Groups for some reason, but apperently it is not covered there as I believe.Essentially, I believe that one needs a new node with nearly the same title as Lennart's node but mainly describing customize-browse. I would move the current description of customize-browse into that node rather than repeating it. The node could briefly mention customize-apropos, with an @anchor to its detailed description. That would achieve the same purpose as Lennart's patch (pointing out that customize-apropos is an alternate way to find options) with a short sentence, rather than with a node.
And the point you made in another letter that the apropos commands only finds loaded options is very essential. This makes my approach much less useful and it should be pointed out clearly.
So I have no real objections. But I still think that the apropos functions should have a prominent place in the node. And to me it was not really obvious from the beginning that you could use the usual search functions the customize buffer.
