I have a patch for the X11 versions of Emacs that activates the
menubar when F10 is pressed.

entirely via the keyboard, especially as it is consistent with both the
Gnome human interface guidelines and with the Emacs tendency to enable
as much as possible to be done via the keyboard instead of the mouse.
With your patch, is it possible to make the choice of the particular key
to use for activating the menubar (F10 or some other) configurable from
lisp, or do you have to specify that key at compile time?
