    Such a list might have multiple entries with the same attribute, say,
    (:foreground "Green") (:foreground "Orange"). How are those combined? Which
    wins?

I think the first value specified for each attribute wins.  What
results do you get?

I agree that it would be good to explain this point clearly in the manual.
If someone tells me (by reading the code, or by experiment) what the actual
behavior is, I can write the text.
