I suddenly remembered.
I've made a little program to get a pointer to the environment block
and print its contents. Among normal variables, it contains this:

=C:=C:\my\dir
=I:=I:\
C:\my\dir> echo %=C:%
C:\my\dir
C:\my\dir> echo %=I:%
I:\
/L/e/k/t/u
