What you're missing is that the people to whom that description
applies are mostly (a) experienced git users (who have their own
workflows for git and don't need the workflow document to tell them
how to suck eggs) or (b) "drive-by" contributors (who won't be doing
much if any merging of stable to trunk, the primary use case for the
multiple clone model).

But providing choices and trying to give guidance as to which ones are
efficient in the presence of conflicting definitions of "efficient"
(nothing that involves frequent bootstrap is time-efficient!) adds
complexity, a disservice to the intended audience (eg, Richard and
Ken'ichi).
