Cannot build on Solaris 2.8 from Latest CVS Sources

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Using the latest CVS sources, I can successfully build on Solaris
2.5.1, but I cannot build on Solaris 2.8.  Here is the error returned
from 'make bootstrap':

The below information came from a successful build on Solaris 2.5.1.

 of 2003-01-02 on amethyst
