thanks for the note --it was because it was lurking in
local-write-hooks that it was also hard to track.
I've fixed my local copy of bbdb for now --incidentally
something else that has happened in the cvs emacs is breaking
font-lock in James Clark' excellent nxml-mode --and it's again
hard to track down because he is doing evil things with post
command hooks and after change functions.
