diff adapted for new M-x compile

Hi,

here is the change we discussed.  It is based on diff-mode, but still a 
separate file.  It is necessary for, but not dependent on my new compile so it 
can be applied immediately.

I have taken the occasion to add a few commands I had in my .emacs for diffing 
the current buffer with various files.
