Emacs says the font (what `C-u C-x =' says when invoked on the
square-root character) is:

   -Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--20-200-75-75-C-100-ISO10646-1

I'm not entirely sure which package that comes from (I'm using debian),
but maybe: xfonts-100dpi  4.3.0-0pre1v5

Perhaps XFree86 4.3 has better unicode fonts.

[My `default' font (specified with the Emacs*Font resource) is:

   -kappa-fixed-medium-r-normal--20-190-75-75-c-100-iso8859-1]
