Sorry if I gave that impression.
What I've seen (but don't see anymore) is that blinking would
_infrequently_ hide the cursor for longer than a second (or so).
I don't recall if I had to actually enter some command to make the
cursor reappear.
But for me, the problem doesn't happen as consistently (if ever) as it
obviously does in your case. That makes it pretty hard to debug...
