Hello!
This variable is set true for any UNIX type GNU Emacs, but not for
Carbon Emacs in Mac OS X. This leads to such messages in a regular
shell buffer of a Carbon Emacs:
Warning: no access to tty (Bad file descriptor).
Thus no job control in this shell.
You have yourself set actively
(setq process-connection-type t)
to gain full control. Couldn't this be set as default for Carbon Emacs
in Mac OS X?
In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin7.8.0)
of 2005-02-21 on localhost
Distributor `Apple Computers', version 10.3.8
configured using `configure '--without-x'
'--enable-carbon-app=/Applications/GNU_Emacs' '--without-pop'
'CFLAGS=-pipe -faltivec -maltivec -mcpu=740 -no-cpp-precomp
-fomit-frame-pointer -foptimize-register-move -fcprop-registers
-frename-registers -freorder-blocks -fpeephole -mpowerpc-gfxopt
-mpowerpc-gpopt' 'CPPFLAGS=-I/sw/include' 'LDFLAGS=-L/sw/lib''
