It could possibly be fixed by setting `font-lock-multiline' to t. But
IIRC this is still rather experimental. We are using it in AUCTeX
because in LaTeX buffers multi-line constructs occur quite often. But
we also had some reports of drastic slowdowns we haven't been able to
track down yet and which may be related to `font-lock-multiline'.
Anyway, I agree with Stefan that less fontification in this case is
better. IMO the same is true for the content currently highlighted in
`make-file-shell' face. It doesn't really help me understand the
syntax and makes the buffer look somewhat crowded and messy.
