    I thought that having the new faces attributeless by default, and 
    handling extensions (i.e. gmake, ...) even when the filename doesn't 
    indicate it, would be enough to keep everybody happy...

It might be so, but I am not sure.  That is why I am looking for someone
who wants to take charge of the issue.
