No, I can't! Launching a bare-bone Emacs without customization lets it
work fine.
'(shell-cd-regexp "[cp]d")
'(shell-pushd-regexp "p(ush|)d")
are the culprits. I commented all my comint- and shell- customization
and undid this item by item. These two were left. Whenever any of them
became active, popd wasn't tracked anymore.
In tcsh I have an alias pd meaning pushd. I am using it often, as pd
+<number> too, so I added it. shell-mode understands pretty well that
pd means pushd ...
