check line coding before sending mail

From: Frederik Fouvry
Subject: check line coding before sending mail
Date: Wed, 27 Jul 2005 12:27:25 +0200 (CEST)

Symptoms:

A buffer that sends mail had best check the line coding before
piping it into the sendmail program, and - if necessary - convert
it first.

I'm on a gnu/linux system, and was trying to send a message from
a file created on a Mac. It took me some time to find out what
was going wrong.
