emacs -Q -nw
In an xterm I do not get extra "characters" the *tumme*
buffer pops up though but it is void (no placeholders).

emacs -Q
M-x tumme 

No *tumme* buffer visible, just the dired buffer with marked files.

m-: (pop-to-buffer "*tumme*") RET

It works, the *tumme* buffer pops up.
