The default value of `gnus-group-name-charset-group-alist' is ((".*"
. utf-8)), so it should cover all groups, IIUC.  Or am I
misunderstanding the issue?

Why is setting it to nil for nndoc necessary?  Is nndoc handled
differently than other backends?
