!!! Thank you !!! I now can reproduce the bug, and have
just committed a fix. It's surprising that this bug
survived this long time.
FYI, the proces output actually contains 8-bit bytes, so it
was going to be decoded by ISO-8859-1 (which is one of
iso-2022 based coding systems).
