I thought the convention that nil means the currently selected window
was common knowledge, but evidently it isn't. I fixed the doc string,
thanks.
Please in the future give some hint in your report as to whether the
doc string is of a function, a variable, or something else. It is
annoyingly inefficient to look for all of the possibilities, and you
already have that information when you report a bug.
