"Text is read only" error in erc with erc-spelling

Please write in English if possible, because the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators to read other languages for them.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Join the channel #snark on irc.freenode.org in some IRC client, then

    emacs 22 -Q RET
    M-x erc RET RET RET RET RET
    C-c C-j #snark
    M-x load-library RET erc-spelling RET
    M-x erc-spelling-enable RET
    frubble M-TAB M-TAB M-TAB

Note that flyspell gives lots of reasonable suggested corrections for
"frubble", one per M-TAB.  So far, so good.

Now type "hey you" in the other IRC client, then switch back to ERC
and try to continue browsing the suggested corrections:

    M-TAB M-TAB M-TAB

Now we get a "Text is read only" error.

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
If you would like to further debug the crash, please read the file
/usr/local/src/emacs-cvs/etc/DEBUG for instructions.
