darcs doesn't only need the patch itself, but the context of the
patch - else, it won't be able to fit it into the repository as a
whole. Remember that darcs has a patch theory behind the patches,
and a patch needs a context to determine whether it can commute
with other patches.
That's why "darcs apply" needs a patch bundle, not just a single
patch. The patch bundle is created using darcs send, which either
sends the file directly via email, or writes it to the file system
when given the -o option.
