Hi,
I'm not sure if this is entirely a pfaedit issue, but there seem to be
problems with GSUB tables in truetype files generated with the latest
versions of pfaedit (such problems were not there in the 20030313 version).
Take a look at
http://www.stat.wisc.edu/~deepayan/Bengali/FreeBangTemplate/pfaedit/BanglaTemplate.sfd.gz
The same directory contains ttf files generated from this file with the
20030313 (debian unstable) and 20030429 (self-compiled) versions of pfaedit.
The first one works fine. In gedit (pango/freetype) the second one shows the
normal characters correctly, but no substitutions take place, and gedit gives
a warning message:
** (gedit:991): WARNING **: Error loading GSUB table 4112
In Yudit, the second one works partially, in the sense that some substitutions
take place while some don't.
A test file (UTF-8) is available at
http://www.stat.wisc.edu/~deepayan/Bengali/FreeBangTemplate/juktolist.txt
In case any of this is relevant,
1. The second .ttf is much larger than the first (same holds for the GSUB
tables dumped by ttx).
2. Both versions of pfaedit crash when trying to re-read the second truetype
file (but not the first).
