* support for Devanagari and Gujarati in Free Sans, a contribution from
existing fonts Gargi 1.9 and Padmaa 0.7. A whole bunch of people were
involved in their development, including Cyberscape Multimedia Ltd.,
Homi Bhabha Centre For Science Education, and of course Monika Shah and
Sonali Sonania of janabhaaratii Team, C-DAC, Mumbai, who also happen to
be members of the Free UCS outline font project team.
* support for Gurmukhi in Free Sans and Free Sans Bold, a contribution
from existing fonts AnmolUni and AnmolUni-Bold, courtesy Kulbir Singh
Thind and Punjabonline.
* better support for Tamil in Free Serif, courtesy Pravin Satpute,
Bageshri Salvi, Rahul Bhalerao and Sandeep Shedmake of the Samyak
project
Some minor achievements include replacing accented Latin letters with
references, completing IPA extensions (but not the spacing modifier
letters) in Free Serif, some progress with support for Armenian in Free
Sans Bold, and random additions and improvements here and there.
Plans for future include incorporation of the fonts from the Samyak
project into Free Serif (Devanagari, Gujarati and Oriya are in line),
adding support for Georgian and support for musical symbols. We are
also close on some points to MES-2 conformance (Free Serif lacks 9
characters, Free Mono 18, Free Serif Bold 31, and Free Sans 47).
Truetype fonts were compiled using Fontforge-20060114. Please test the
fonts for errors and let me know - preferably using the list
address@hidden - so that we can together improve the fonts.
With kind regards,
Primoz
