I understand what you are trying to do, but I still think that its
usage is very limited -- perhaps as a tool to control the assembling
and disassembling actions of ttx.

Ha! If you think that those simple TrueType tables are complicated or
poorly documented then you should definitely have a look at the
OpenType specification for the GDEF, GPOS, and GSUB tables.
