I am looking at different themes for the rest of the website. I have
seen some nice Jekyll, MkDocs and other themes would like to share
them.

1.  Documentation Theme (Jekyll)

    Link - http://idratherbewriting.com/documentation-theme-jekyll/

This is the same theme being currently used by Google for the
GSoC guides. It's a very simple theme with a lot of customizable
    elements.

This is good, especially the navbar toggle button :) . It is also similar to
current mkdocs implementation. With this docs and {blogs, tutorials, news ...}
can be separated easily.

2.  Jekyll Doc Theme

    Link - https://aksakalli.github.io/jekyll-doc-theme/

This is a more modern-looking parent theme with many different
'looks'. They can be viewed here - https://bootswatch.com/3/

This looks better than the former one, but some minor changes like
decreasing the area occupied by side navbar (which is currently 30%)
and increasing the font-size. But it has better UI than former one.

3.  Other Jekyll themes

There are many other Jekyll themes available at
http://jekyllthemes.org/. Many of these are blog-oriented, so
they might not be fit for the project.

Agree.
But these theme's search functionality is not good :( . They are just
searching among headings.

Although Jekyll is very customizable, it also means that there are a
lot of configuration files that need to be maintained. This is not
necessarily a bad thing.

No, but if config information like title, permalink ... can be made implicit
or a separate config file for that would be great.
