More than a bit. Basically distorted by people with vested interests who
really don't understand (or don't want to publicise) the global picture.
As productivity applications mature they are actually easier to maintain
with less effort so the idea that somehow GNU/Linux or OpenOffice.org
will die through apathy seems more like wishful thinking than reality.
Shareware and commercial licensed software will persist alongside FLOSS
as long as there are specific niches which don't capture the imagination
of a FLOSS project. This is more likely in minority applications which
need regular updating and reconfiguring. Apps like the OS, Office
productivity, web servers etc are the most likely candidates for FLOSS.
