Generally because web forums are annoyingly constrictive, force one
choice of interface on users, and are not as flexible or accessible
as mailing lists.
If you find this particular topic not of interest to you, I suggest
you use the "ignore thread" functionality provided by most mail
programs :)
It's of slightly ironic that people like Ste are exactly the people
we are trying to welcome onto the list as a result of this thread.
While I share the general consensus about web forums vs mailing
lists, I think that perhaps explaining gently to those who may not
immediately have grasped the advantages of mailing lists.
