Hi all,

Apologies for the self-promotion, but I thought the people on here might
be interested in an open data, open source side-project I've been
running around 'blue plaques'.

There have been plenty of projects to try and map them before, but I've
attempted to collect the data on a much bigger scale, and to do some
parsing of the 'inscriptions' to automatically pull out semantic data
that can be marked up with microformats, and used to create index pages
and so on.

I've written up the project's history on my blog here:
http://www.frankieroberto.com/weblog/1454.

And the site itself is live here: http://www.openplaques.org/

It's currently in an 'Alpha' phase (we're still working out how to open
up the submission of data, registrations and so on).

There's the beginnings of an API using the Rails-based content
negotiation. You can try it by adding .xml or .json to the different URLs.

Would be interested in your thoughts!

Frankie Roberto
