Greetings!  Doesn't amd64 run generic i386 32-bit executables?  Are we
talking Linux here?  I assume you mean a port to the new instruction
set on the "hammer".  I'm also assuming that gcc will output these
instructions with some compile-time flag.

If you can get the default behavior of gcc on your box to produce
64bit executables, then you should be ready to go with ./configure and
make.  You can make use of the CC and (I believe) the CFLAGS
environment variables to achieve this before running configure if
necessary.  Otherwise, we would need to make sure that config.sub
would recognize the arch, and then setup new h/*.{h,defs} files using
386-linux as a starting template.

This is probably too broad, but hopefully should get you started.  Of
course, if you can provide remote access to the box, I could probably
find some time to get it working reasonably quickly.
