Hi Camm,

I am always interested in more CONS space.  Besides my use of ACL2, I
am using Lisp to represent very large computational biology datasets,
and space is an issue.  In that same vein, reducing the space for a
CONS from 12 bytes to 8 bytes would be great -- more CONS pairs are
available and more CONS pairs fit in the cache, etc.  (I often use
OpenMCL on a MacIntosh because I do get 50% more CONS pairs.)  Of
course, it makes much more sense to justget a 64-bit computer system
and add lots of memory.

  Unfortunately, due to the Debian compromise, my access to 64bit
  machines is temporarily suspended.  If you are interested, I can run an
  experiment for you on an alpha, an ia64, and an amd64 machine at some
  point in the hopefully near future.  Please remind me in a few weeks

  principle, the effective memory region on a 64bit machine should be
  effectively unlimited compared to what we are used to.
