I was just thinking, when playing globulation, the surroundings are
so... ...still. (when there aren't any globs there that is) So I was
thinking that it would be cool if there could be neutral things going
around. like butterflies or something. maybe have birds that go around
stealing food from inns. Just something to liven the terrain up.
Any thoughts?

I think that you are very right!!!! I also like very much the papyrus, because it's useless, it just adds some atmosphere. Something more that would be very but *very* cool is... wind! This is hard to do, yes, but I really love wind! When you see it on the water, making little ripples, when it's on the fields you see them move, everything could move, even grass and sand!

Ok, you'll say that this is again an idea that is impossible to code, the sprites cannot contain all the possibilities, and it would take too much cpu anyway. But please have a look at the following web site to appreciate the full power of simple sprites:
http://www.lecielestbleu.com/media/puppettoolframe.htm

What about decomposing grass, trees, water, wheat, etc into smaller sprites that are articulated? Would that be feasible in real time? Butterflies could also be welcome to move in the wind.

Furthermore, we could have a very simple meteorological model, like the one I did years ago, and I seem to remember that you nct and nuage did one too. But with more generative random in it. This model could trigger the articulations of the sprites to simulate the effect of wind.

What I like in this idea is that it completely fits into the logic of "strategic simulation" and also fits in the sweet universe of the globules.

We should then also think about all kind of gameplay extensions that could be based on the wind. This would be important, it would really make it worth coding all that, because for simple aesthetic purpose it's probably way too much work. Right now I don't have very cool gameplay ideas with the wind, perhaps it's not such a good idea, or perhaps I'm not very inventive right now. Any ideas?

Gabriel
