  libltdl doesn't get built at all if you have the system libltdl
installed, so this is normal. You have to configure with
--enable-ltdl-install to force it to build. libltdl is only used by the
extensions, and it's only called a single time from Global.cpp at
runtime, so I have a really hard time seeing how this change would have
effected performance so greatly.

  The only change I made was to not cd into libltdl and do a "make".
Which does nothing if you have the system libltdl installed anyway. I'd
love this be "the problem", since it has an easy fix. I'm just not
convinced though.
