Having had a quick look at the code, it seems to me the intended
functionality is not there. As Benjamin points out, the extension does
nothing. So it seems to me that even if one were to update the extension
to the new Gnash core API, it would still do nothing.

Given this and the other facts already mentioned, it seems quite
reasonable to me to remove the code without further discussion. In principle,
I think it is important to keep the repository clear of clutter.

Revision control permits any interested parties to resurrect the code with a
single command, and it can be recommitted when the aforementioned
issues have been addressed.
