During a conversation on #gnewsense, lots of people did not like the
"gnewsense marketing" name.
Another suggestion: Friends of gNewSense. It's
- Friendly
- Inclusive: it implies "the more, the merrier"; gNewSense wants to be
your friend, do you want to be a friend of gNewSense?
- Not exclusive: a friend of gNewSense can also be a friend of another
free distro.
- Catchy in the way that it kind of rhymes
- Web 2.0: it seems that everybody wants to be everybody's friend online
these days, so why not be a friend of gNewSense.
Like some other suggestions, this one applies more to all of the
gNewSense user community (and possibly those who sympathize with our
cause but aren't using it yet). I don't think that's a problem, because
when the name catches on (by the efforts of the team) everybody who uses
it will be part of the marketing team in a way.
I've made a summary of the comments so far [1]. I hope it will help us
come closer to a decision. Please review it, edit if I have forgotten
something and voice further comments and opinions on this list.

I'm forwarding it for him.)
Wohoo, my first mail to the mailing list.
I like 'Friends of gNewSense'. The abbreviated form would become Fog,
which can be a bit misleading. But at the same time, it could also mean,
that 'ordinary' (in the sense that free software users aren't ordinary)
are walking around in a fog, where they cannot clearly see what is
happening (eg. the source code).
The only thing is that the GNOME Foundation has this programme called
'Friends of GNOME', which is essentially an initiative to make people
donate to the project. If people associate Friends of gNewSense with
that of raising money for developers, and not a group of volunteers who
wish to promote the use and adoption of free software (and in particular
gNewSense), it might send the wrong signals to people.
I can't really think of a new name right now, but I think there are
already quite a few good candidates (namely Fog, GAP and Spread
gNewSense), so it's not that big of a shame.
