I have a GP2X which plays ogg natively (and is powered by GNU/Linux and
free software) -- I love my GP2X, but I think the company that makes
them is dust now. If you can find one on ebay, I'd recommend it.

My partner has a Cowon S9
(<http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/cowon/s9/>). It doesn't advertise
it very prominently, but it plays ogg and seems to not require any
non-free software to manipulate it. I don't think its software is free,
though, so I can't recommend it.

You could also buy an older iPod on ebay and then put Rockbox on it.
That way you'd have no proprietary software involved, but you'd have a
high-capacity player that a lot of people know how to fix.
