Maybe your phone doesn't support the message which ask the current
status (it definitly works on a 6110 which is using the same driver).
Please send us the debug output.

gnokii --smsreader is broken, but you can use smsd. It will read
incoming messages and you can send messages easily. Look into the
smsd/README in the gnokii tarball.
